About Me
Hey there! My name's Laura, and I'm a college student studying electrical engineering and Spanish in South Dakota. I am happily married and have an adopted dog named Tink. I've loved traveling, geography, and other cultures for as long as I can remember, and I use this blog to chronicle my attempts to go everywhere and see everything. Enjoy! In late December of 2015, I traveled to Winnipeg for a few days with my two sisters. We had a lot of fun exploring the city, shopping, and hanging out together there. We really enjoyed some of the more cultured things that we were able to do there, such as see the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra perform the Nutcracker ballet, visit the Olympus exhibition at the Winnipeg Art Gallery, and visit some boutiques in the French Quarter. We also did some really fun free things, like visit the ruins of St. Boniface Cathedral and the Manitoba Legislative Building.

I spent one month in Havana, Cuba. I lived with a host family and studied Spanish at the University of Havana during that time, so I got to know the city pretty well! Since it was a study abroad trip, we also learned a lot through excursions to museums and important sites and almost-daily "conferencias" with experts in various aspects of Cuba, from religion to sexuality and history to US-Cuba relations. We also took a few trips outside of Havana on weekends--we spent a day each at Soroa, Vinales, and Varadero and took a longer overnight trip to Santa Clara, Trinidad, Espiritu Santo and Cienfuegos. I've been to Mexico five times, most recently over New Years 2015. I go there on short-term mission trips through the ministry Casas Por Cristo, building homes for families in the cities of Ciudad Juárez (twice) and Ciudad Acuña (3 times). They also build homes in Guatemala and the Dominican Republic, but I haven't managed to go on a trip to either of those places yet. Below is more information about Mexico!

I went to Bolivia in August 2014. I was a participant in an Engineers Without Borders clean water project through my university. We spent most of our time at or near the UAC (Universidad Academica Campesina) in Carmen Pampa, but we also spent some time in La Paz and Coroico as well. Below are links to more information about our trip and Bolivia in general!

I went to Paris as part of the Photography Tour to Europe I took in May 2013. We only spent three days there, but we managed to see a lot of the famous sites of the city (and get some great photos!) while we were there. Below are some links to my daily blog posts while in Paris and some advice for your visit.

The city of Edinburgh was a stop on our European Photography Tour, and it was great fun--we found that it was the city out of the three (London, Paris & Edinburgh) that we missed the most once we had gone back home. Scotland is really beautiful and has a fascinating culture, which I think was part of why we missed the place. Below are links to my Edinburgh blog posts and advice on Edinburgh travel.

We spent the majority of our European Photography Tour in London--the plane landed there and we stayed five days before heading to Edinburgh, then Paris, and then spent another two days there before returning home. We managed to do and see a lot of London's highlights in that time, though of course I'd love to go back. You can read my London blog posts and some advice about London below.
